Entering the Zone

Here I am in my Chernobyl commando outfit (OK, so I don’t really resemble Linda Hamilton in the “Terminator 2” movie) at the Dytiatky checkpoint on the zone’s southern border. In the early years after the disaster, people entering or leaving the thirty kilometer zone had to change cars at Dytiatky so that radioactive vehicles stayed inside the zone.
