Belarus

The Belarusian portion of the evacuated zone gets far fewer foreign visitors than its Ukrainian counterpart. I tried going through official channels in Minsk but it got so complicated, I gave up and decided to organize my trip locally, thinking that the Chernobyl folks in Ukraine would be well acquainted with the Chernobyl folks in Belarus. Actually, they didn’t know each other at all! In fact, Rimma Kyselytsia from Chernobylinterinform volunteered to be my fixer because she was curious about Belarus herself.
