The Leliv checkpoint

This checkpoint into the ten kilometer zone is near the abandoned village of Leliv, just outside Chornobyl. When I first visited the zone on the disaster’s tenth anniversary in 1996, it was no longer necessary to change cars at Dytiatky, but you still had to do it at Leliv. Today, I can drive my own car from Kiev into the “ten” and back.
