The plant’s complete name was: Chernobyl Atomic Energy Station in the name of V.I. Lenin. The bust of the Soviet Union’s founder remained in the plant’s plaza for nearly 20 years after the disaster, but it was finally removed in late 2005. Good riddance, I say. The Chernobyl disaster was at least an indirect product of the stupid, inefficient, mendacious and ultimately doomed system that Lenin created.
