Checking me
This machine at Dytiatky checks to see if I picked up any radioactive dust. But I never have, even after bushwhacking in very radioactive places like the Red Forest.
That, at least, is what I originally wrote...
In November, 2005, I actually did pick up some funky dust on my shoe -- probably after visiting the Red Forest. But I splashed my foot in a puddle and the radioactive stuff washed off. A friend wasn't so lucky. His sneakers kept setting off the alarms even after we washed them several times. He ended up leaving them in the zone.
