Lynx or wolf?
One member of our group on the late March, 2006, day that I took this photo thought that the track was left by a lynx. But after consulting my animal tracking handbooks, I think it was a wolf because of the claw prints you'll see if you enlarge the image. If any more expert trackers out there have a different opinion, please email me...
One reader pointed out that it's hard to identify the animal from the paw print alone, though it seems to have been dragging its tail (which is better seen in the previous photo). That is more like a lynx than a wolf. Which makes it all the more exciting for me, since lynx are so rare!
